In June of 2008, my Australian Mate and I made a 3 week trip to the Ukraine.

He had been to the Ukraine before and knows Russian pretty well. My Russian is very weak and this was my first trip.

We wanted to see as much of the country as possible, so we started in Kiev and from there we went to Odessa, Izmail, Nikolaev, Simferopol, Sevastopol (Crimea Region), Kharkov, Vinnitsa and back to Kiev. We used planes, trains, automobiles and buses during our trip.

Normally, we would rent apartments for accommodations. During this trip, we had the pleasure of meeting Liliya, owner and founder of Odessa Interpreter. Her English is excellent, both in writing and in speaking and her Enthusiasm for travel and understanding foreigners is superb. She is originally from a small city near Izmail (Bolgrad), but now spends much of her time in Odessa and Kiev.

I wish I had known someone like Liliya as it would have saved me time and money during my travels around the Ukraine. She has connections and associates in many of the cities. The important part is that she is honest, caring and on your side and will see to it that you get good value for your money, whether that be apartment rentals, transportations, interpretations services (business or personal) or just good advice on what to do, where to eat and any other important pieces of information that you might need.

The bottom line is that if you are new to the Ukraine, the money you spend on the services that someone like Liliya can provide, will offset the headaches you can encounter along the way. There might be McDonalds in all the major cities, but the language and culture is much different from the US and Canada, where I’m from.

Marriage agencies, catering to foreign men are very common in the Ukraine . All of these agencies have their own interpreters whom are often friends with the women there. While most people are honest, not everyone has your best interest at heart. If you are taking your search seriously, hiring an “independent” interpreter to represent you is well worth the investment, especially with phone correspondence and personal meetings. A company like Odessa Interpreter can also help organize apartments, travel/tours, functions and personal meetings, catering to your interests and desires, while making your Ukrainian experience cost effective, fun, enjoyable and safe.

Mrs. Liliya Banava has been engaged by our company, „Deutsche Schachstiftung & Russian Chess Foundation“, to work as a translator (Russian-English and vice-versa) for the visit and first examination of Chess Project in /Russia in (Febr. 2007?) (methodical chess lessons at elementary schools). Liliya Baneva has always been helpful, her presence allowed me to take part in the school lessons and talks with our partners at the project.

Liliya Benava is a good guide, she has a way of cheerful and mature personality, her presence has been a supportive contribution to all matters in our talks with our connected partners.

I personally enjoyed to work with Liliya Baneva, and the cooperation with the project visited turned out to become successful.

With best regards,

Deutsche Schachstiftung, Chairman,

During that period of time I have used her services as an interpreter for Russian and English. I found her to be dependable, reliable and very courteous. She possesses a solid knowledge of the English Language. Her vocabulary is extensive. Her pronunciation is clear and precise. Confident in the use of everyday language she was also able to transit to more technical terms as required.

I strongly recommend her, without hesitation, for services as a English/Russian Interpreter.
